PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (ME) Flood Response Continues in Maine

Date: Thu, 21 Dec 2023 09:29:30 EST

Summary: As rivers recede in Maine, efforts shift to rating confirmation and flood documentation.

Major flooding has ended in Maine, with only 4 stations at minor flood stage. For most basins, the event was the highest or second highest peak on record (a record that includes many long-term gages). Previously computed equations indicated 7 stations at a >500-year, 4 stations at 200-500-year, 1 station at 100-200-year, and 2 at 50-100-year. Many other stations were 5-50-year events.

All gages are transmitting, with one damaged gage repaired.

4 crews (including help from other New Eng WSC offices) are collecting rating confirmation measurements at streamgages, with another 6 crews collecting HWMs as part of a FEMA mission assignment.

Collaboration with state and local officials continues, including Maine EMA, NWS, and several other major cooperators.
