The bedload trap is a portable FISP-approved sampler designed specifically for the collection of gravel and cobble bedload in wadeable streams. The bedload trap consists of an aluminum frame with a 12 by 8-inch opening attached to a 4 foot long meshed net. The bedload trap is installed on ground plates that are anchored to the stream bottom with 3.5 foot long metal stakes. Since the traps are not handheld and are attached to the stream bottom, sampling can be done over a lengthy period of time, generally a 1-hour sample period.

The Bedload Traps are available for short term deployments under the HIF Rental Program.

Tips for Techs

Please ensure bedload traps are rinsed, cleaned, and dried before returning to HIF. Charges may apply for dirty, contaminated mesh netting.
