PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (TX) Flooding continues in the OTWSC

Date: Mon, 06 May 2024 16:03:24 EDT

Summary: Most of the flooding for the OTWSC continues to be in Central and East Texas, with some localized flooding in Eastern Oklahoma.

The Houston, Austin, Fort Worth, San Angelo, Oklahoma City and Tulsa offices have crews out measuring medium to high flows, collecting water samples, and making gage repairs, many that were caused by flooding.

Precipitation amounts are finally decreasing over the entire OTWSC and forecasted rains are looking much lighter except for a few localized events in Northeast Oklahoma and Northeast Texas over the next couple of days. These localized rain events could cause some more localized flooding but fortunately, are not the areas that have been inundated with rains over the past week.

As of Monday (5/6) the Houston field unit has six crews in the field making high flow measurements, field verifications and obtaining
high water marks again today. Most of their focus continues to be on the Trinity and San Jacinto River watersheds. They have measured at least 15 peaks of record in the past week and measured another one today. They have only received damage at one site due to the high flows currently.

Austin field unit continues to have crews in the field making high flow measurements, field verifications and obtaining high water marks again today. They intend to make 12 high flow measurements today. They also have four sites that require rating extensions and two sites that need repairs after the high flow.

San Angelo field unit has a crew in the field making medium flow measurements on the recession of earlier events and obtaining high water marks. They have another crew out making repairs to sites that received damage from the recent high flows. Another technician is in the field checking for site damage and making peak verifications.

Fort Worth field unit has crews in the field making high flow measurements, field verifications and obtaining high water marks again today. They also have a crew out replacing some failed equipment.

Oklahoma City field unit has a crew in the field making a high flow measurement, field verification, obtaining high water marks and collecting water samples on an event.

Tulsa field unit has two crews in the field making high flow measurements, field verifications and obtaining high water marks. They also have two crews out in the field collecting water samples on events.

The other offices in the Oklahoma-Texas water science center that are not currently experiencing high flow conditions continue to monitor
their area and prepare crews as some localized heavy rainfalls are expected.
