PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (CA) continued response after atmospheric river

Date: Tue, 06 Feb 2024 16:30:17 EST

Summary: CA WSC field crews make recession measurements after atmospheric river

Rain continued for most of yesterday throughout most of the state. Today, the rain ended for much of the state, but rain continues to fall in southern California, with Los Angeles receiving the highest intensity. Snow continues falling in the Sierras. The high winds have subsided. Almost 160,000 people are still without power.

Flooding, mud and rock slides, and fallen trees damaged homes and blocked roads in many areas of the state. A total of three people were killed by falling trees. There were reports of many river rescues in Los Angeles and San Diego.

31 field staff making up 19 teams from the Ukiah, Santa Cruz, Santa Maria, Poway, and Redlands Field Offices are continuing to measure recession flows at streamages in their field areas. Field crews have been working around roads and areas blocked by mud slides, rocks, and downed trees.

No peaks of record flows are expected.
