PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (FL) Flooding on St. Johns River, Florida

Date: Thu, 10 Nov 2022 08:09:01 EST

Summary: Impacts from Hurricane Nicole caused flooding on the St. Johns River in Florida

This project alert covers the central and north Florida area with impacts from Hurricane Nicole. Hurricane Nicole made landfall early Thursday morning, Nov. 10, as a Category 1 storm and dropped an estimated 3-5” of rainfall over most of central Florida. In combination with the rainfall, the northeast winds as the storm approached slowed down the flow of water in the St. Johns River, which still had elevated water levels from flooding in October from Hurricane Ian. Currently, 7 locations on the St. Johns River are at or very near moderate flood stage, and 1 location is above major flood stage. Currently no personnel have responded, as tropical storm force winds are still prevalent in the area.
