PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (NY) Snowmelt and Ice-jam flooding in New York

Summary: Snowmelt and Ice-jam flooding in New York

Minor flooding is occurring throughout much of New York as a
result of snowmelt from yesterday's near record high temperatures
along with 1-3 inches of rain on frozen soil. Ice jams are also
occurring in many streams with Moderate to Major flooding along
the East Branch AuSable River in the Adirondack Mtns. Runoff was
limited in northern New York as a result of the deeper snowpack.
Temperatures continue to fall across New York with many areas
below freezing.

A total of 9 USGS crews (18 staff members) from the Cortland,
Troy, Buffalo, & Milford offices are making high-flow discharge
measurements today (Feb 18) for rating calibration. All USGS
gages are currently operating.
