SURFACE WATER BRANCH TECHNICAL MEMORANDUM NO. 80.07

Subject: PUBLICATIONS--Report: "Evaluation of Selected Dam-Break
Flood Wave Models by Using Field Data,"
WRI 80-44 by Larry E. Land

Four dam-break flood-wave models are evaluated on the basis of desirable
features and by using field data from the experienced failures at Teton
Dam, Idaho, Johnstown, Pennsylvania, and Toccoa Falls, Georgia. A modified
version of the National Weather Service dam break flood forecast model
is identified as the most accurate, economical, flexible, and easiest to
apply.

Please bring the report to the attention of appropriate people in your
office.
