Patrick Leahy" (by way of rhirsch@usgs.gov (Robert Hirsch)) Subject: Personnel Assignments - 7/31/96 Date: July 31, 1996 To: All Geologic Division Employees From: P. Patrick Leahy Chief Geologist Subject: Personnel Assignments to Act in Senior Management Positions in the Geologic Division We have been working hard to implement the concepts of our new organizational structure which represents a significant departure from the Division's traditional way of conducting business. I am pleased with the progress we have made to date. However, we are about to enter Fiscal Year (FY) 1997 which will present our first major operational test of these new procedures and reporting relationships. At the same time, it has been necessary to defer the permanent filling of senior management positions within the Geologic Division pending Departmental review and approval. It is my sense that we will not be able to complete action on these positions until late winter or spring of next year. Since this transition period is extending beyond what we had anticipated, I am making the following personnel assignments effective September, 15, 1996: a) Bill Normark, who has served as Acting Western Regional Geologist, will return to his scientific position on the Western Marine and Coastal Geology Team. b) Tom Fouch will serve on detail as Acting Western Regional Geologist. c) Elisabeth Brouwers will serve on detail as Acting Central Regional Geologist. d) Nancy Milton, who has served as Acting Eastern Regional Geologist, will be detailed to the Office of the Chief Geologist. e) I will let you know the individual who will serve on detail as Acting Eastern Regional Geologist within the next several days. I want to express my appreciation, and that of the entire Division, to Bill Normark and Nancy Milton for their service over the last several years and during this transition period. Likewise, I want to thank those who have accepted these new responsibilities for their willingness to help us address the many challenges that lay ahead as we work to implement our Science Plans for FY 1997. Please welcome and support these new leaders in their challenging assignments. ------- End of Forwarded Message
