OFFICE OF GROUND WATER TECHNICAL MEMORANDUM NO. 97.02

Subject: GROUND WATER--Release of Open-File Report 96-364,
"Documentation of a computer program (RES1) to simulate
leakage from reservoirs using the modular finite-
difference ground-water flow model (MODFLOW)" by Jon P.
Fenske, S.A. Leake, and David E. Prudic

The subject report describes RES1, an additional package for
MODFLOW that simulates leakage between reservoirs and the
underlying ground-water system. The RES1 Package uses linear
interpolation to calculate reservoir stage for each time step
within a stress period from the user-specified values of stage
at the beginning and end of the stress period. During a time
step, RES1 calculates leakage at all cells for which the
reservoir stage is greater than the user-specified values of
land-surface elevation. We recommend that this report be
brought to the attention of technical and management personnel
concerned with ground-water modeling studies.

To obtain additional copies of the report, contact Stan Leake
in the Arizona District (phone: 520 670-6540, extension 259,
electronic mail: SALEAKE). The RES1 Package has been
incorporated into the version of MODFLOW that the Hydrologic
Analysis Software Support (HASS) Team distributes via the
World Wide Web. This can be retrieved by connecting to
