Subject:  PUBLICATIONS--Release of OFR 91-484, "A Computer Program (MODFLOWP)
          for Estimating Parameters of a Transient, Three-Dimensional, Ground-
          Water Flow Model Using Nonlinear Regression" by Mary C. Hill

The subject report describes a parameter estimation package as part of a new
version of the USGS modular model, MODFLOW.  This new version is called
MODFLOWP.  In addition to estimating model parameters, MODFLOWP calculates
statistics that quantify the reliability of the resulting model and can be used
to evaluate model sensitivity.  MODFLOWP is a practical tool that will be
applicable to a wide range of modeling studies.  We recommend that this report
be brought to the attention of technical and management personnel concerned
with ground-water modeling studies.

The program code can be retrieved from the QVARSA Prime computer.  On any Water
Resources Division Prime computer, use the following command to retrieve a
Command Procedure Language (CPL) program from QVARSA.  This program will be
returned to your FTS_DEPOT directory.

  FTR MODFLOW>TRANSFERP.CPL FTS_DEPOT>== -SS QVARSA

After the CPL program has been retrieved, attach to a directory where you would
like MODFLOWP to be stored, and execute the CPL program to retrieve all the
files for MODFLOWP.

  CPL FTS_DEPOT>TRANSFERP

One of the retrieved files, MODFLOWP.READ_ME, contains a definition of all the
retrieved files.  If there are problems retrieving MODFLOWP, please contact
Arlen Harbaugh in the Office of Ground Water.
