OFFICE OF GROUND WATER TECHNICAL MEMORANDUM NO. 92.05

Subject: Publications--Release of a new report entitled "Concepts and modeling
          in ground-water hydrology--a self-paced training course,"
by O. Lehn Franke, Gordon D. Bennett, Thomas E. Reilly,
Robert L. Laney, Herbert T. Buxton, and Ren Jen Sun

The subject report was recently printed as U.S. Geological Survey Open-File
Report 90-707. Copies are being sent under separate cover to all district
offices and subdistrict offices.

The report contains the materials that are used in the Self-Paced Ground-Water
Concepts Course (G0761-S) that has been offered since 1984 (see Office of
Ground Water Technical Memorandum No. 92.03). The materials were adapted and
expanded from those that have been used in the 2-week version of the Ground-
Water Concepts Course (G0761), which has been offered for a number of years at
the National Training Center. A series of technical notes on special topics
are included in the report and are designed to partially replace the
instructors that are used in the 2-week version of the course. The materials
in the report are designed for self study, but when participants formally take
the course they are assigned to an experienced hydrologist who serves as
advisor for the course. The materials constitute a "second level" course,
which is a logical prerequisite to the ground-water modeling courses.

Limited additional copies of the report are available from the Office of Ground
Water.
