GROUND WATER BRANCH TECHNICAL MEMORANDUM NO. 79.02
SUBJECT: PUBLICATIONS--Report, "Linear Ground-Water Flow Flood-
Wave Response Program for Programmable
Calculators," by John Michael Kernodle.
The subject report, published as U.S. Geological Survey open-file
report 78-356, documents two computer programs written for
programmable calculators to compute head changes in an aquifer
induced by stage changes in a stream in complete hydraulic
connection with the aquifer. These programs have been used to
estimate aquifer diffusivity by comparing observed aquifer head
changes with theoretic head values computed assuming selected
values of diffusivity.
The programs are written for the Hewlett Packard 9810A and Wang
System 2200 calculators and are written in machine language and a
form of Basic, respectively. The report includes guidelines on
the use of the technique, accuracy constraints imposed by the
technique, and errors of approximation inherent in the programs.
Additional copies of the report are available upon request.
