GROUND WATER BRANCH TECHNICAL MEMORANDUM NO. 69.12

To: District Chiefs and Staff Officials, WRD

From: Chief, Ground Water Branch, WRD

Subject: Hydrology of carbonate rocks; karst.

The attached copy of a memorandum prepared by V. T. Springfield
summarizes some current thinking on karst development. As
Stringfield notes, an understanding of such features is an aid to
definition of water movement and permeability distribution in
carbonate aquifers. Stringfield and Harry LeGrand are co-
authoring a book on the hydrology of carbonate rocks.
