Subject:  PUBLICATIONS - WRD Technical Manual Series: "Aquifer-
                         test design, observation, and data
                         analysis," by R. W. Stallman (Chapter B1,
                         Book 3)

Copies of Chapter B1, Book 3, of the Division's Techniques of
Water Resources Investigations Series are being distributed with
this memorandum for district technical personnel.  A limited
number of additional copies of the manual, entitled "Aquifer-test
design, observation, and data analysis," are available from the
Reports Section, WRD, code 4025-0001.

A large array of formulas for analyzing aquifer tests has been
developed.  Recognition of the basic framework common to all
aquifer tests will greatly reduce the complexity of data handling
and processes.  The purpose of Stallman's technical manual is to
describe this common framework and to emphasize the importance of
criteria associated with the design and field-observation phases
of aquifer tests.
