Subject:  MAPS - Ground Water Sheet, National Atlas Series.

A copy of the Ground Water Sheet of the National Atlas is
enclosed.  Prepared by Harold E. Thomas, the map depicts major
productive aquifers in the United States and localities of
concentrated ground-water withdrawals.  It updates the maps that
were published in his book "The Conservation of Ground Water" in
1951 and report "Ground-water regions of the United States--Their
storage facilities" in 1952, and that were adapted for use in
Circular 114, Water-Supply Paper 1800, and Hydrologic Atlas
HA-194.

A Geological Survey press release dated December 30, 1967,
announced publication of this map and nine others of the
National Atlas Series.
