GROUND WATER BRANCH MEMORANDUM NO. 59.14

To: District Chiefs and Staff Officials, Ground Water Branch

From: Acting Chief, Ground Water Branch, Washington, D.C.

Subject: PROGRAMS AND PLANS - Mapping by Geologic Division under
the National Water Resources Policy Program

The information supplied by the field offices in response to
Ground Water Branch memo dated April 7, 1958, on the above subject
has been very valuable. It was used by the Interdivision
Committee on General Purpose Geologic Mapping under the National
Water Resources Policy Program to develop the current projects in
the Geologic Division under this program.

The committee will meet again in November to review the program
and recommend future work. The purpose of this memorandum is to
request necessary information to enable the representatives of the
Water Resources Division to present the most effective proposals
at that meeting.

Please review the Ground Water Branch memorandum dated April 7,
1958, and the attached excerpts from the May 1958 recommendations
of the Interdivision Committee on General Purpose Geologic
Mapping.

                         Action Requested

All Water Resources Division district offices are requested to
reconsider their previous recommendations for mapping by the
Geologic Division. Ground Water Branch District Supervisors are
requested to contact the representatives of other Branches
concerning the purpose of this memorandum. Any revision or
amplification of previous proposals and any new proposals should
be collected and forwarded to the Ground Water Branch Area Chiefs.
All previous proposals for work in the area of each Branch Area
Chief are being transmitted to them by this office. Each is
requested to consider previous proposals and any new or revised
proposals and to assign priority numbers in order of importance
for all project proposals in his area. The collected proposals
for each area with priority classification are then to be
transmitted by the Branch Area Chiefs to Mr. Stanley Lohman.
Mr. Lohman in consultation with Messrs. R.V. Peterson and C.W.
Carlston will prepare a master priority list for submission to the
Interdivision Committee on General Purpose Geologic Mapping under
the National Water Resources Policy Program.

                          Action Schedule

All revised and new project proposals must be in the hands of
Ground Water Branch Area Chiefs by October 27, 1958. The
collected and classified proposals from each Branch Area Chief
must be received by Mr. Lohman by November 10, 1958.

Your cooperation in providing this type of information is greatly
appreciated.
