Subject:  RESEARCH - AGU Committee on Ground Water; project
                     for report at the 1958 annual meeting

A request has been received from Mr. G.B. Maxey, Chairman of the
A. G. U. Committee on Ground Water to furnish a description of
current research activities within the Branch.  In addition to the
formalized research projects, much of the cooperative program of
water-resource investigation includes special studies of a
fundamental nature.  Such studies may relate to the development
and exposition of basic concepts or principles, the extension and
improvement of methodology, or the clarification of imperfectly-
understood segments of geohydrology.

Your assistance is requested on the preparation of a syllabus of
special studies of the nature described.  Please complete the
enclosed form for such project study which in your estimation
merits notice.  Completed forms should be returned to this office
not later than January 31, 1958.  Your assistance is appreciated.
