<descript>
Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) are digital records of
terrain elevations at regularly spaced intervals. The
interval between elevations of 7.5 minute DEMs is
30-meters. Each DEM file covers the area of one U.S.
Geological Survey 1 to 24,000 scale 7.5 minute
topographic quadrangle.
 </abstract>
 <purpose>DEMs can be used for creation of slope maps, aspect
maps, shaded relief maps, and contour maps, for analysis
of hydrography and runoff. For this dataset, the original
ArcInfo Grid of the San Gorgonio Pass and surrounding
area in Riverside County, California was clipped to produce
accurate elevation data for calculations in hydrologic
applications.

 <complete>The original projection for this dataset was UTM, NAD27,
Units meters, Zone 11, with a Y-shift of negative
-3,500,000. After further processing the dataset was
re-projected in UTM, NAD27, Units meters, Zone 11, with
a corrected Y-shift equal to zero.

 <procdesc>This ArcInfo Grid was originally projected in UTM zone 11,
meters with a -3,500,000 yshift. Requiring
only the area of and near San Gorgonio Pass, the ArcInfo
command "setmask" was used to clip out a smaller
section of the grid. Once the grid was clipped down to its
appropriate size, the ArcInfo command "Project" was used
to reproject the DEM into its current projection of UTM
meters and a yshift of 0.
