In the early 1970's, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS)
entered into a partnership with the National Aeronautic and
Space Administration (NASA) to provide repetitive global
images of the earth's landmasses taken from a satellite
flown at an altitude of approximately 438 miles. Onboard
the 1999 Landsat7 satellite, the instrument used is an
8-band multispectral scanning radiometer that produces
high-resolution images of the earth using bandwidths
between 15 and 60-meter pixel resolution.
 </abstract>
<purpose>This image was created to provide a false color
enhanced 30 meter resolution LandSat7 image of the San
Gorgonio Pass area in Riverside County, California.

<procdesc>Original image was clipped to this study area and projected
in UTM zone 11, meters, NAD27 with a yshift of -3,500,000
by Michael J. Rymer, USGS, Menlo Park, CA. In order to
reproject the image, the image was converted to a grid
using the ArcInfo command "imagegrid". Once the image
was converted to a grid, ArcInfo command "project" was
used to transform the image into is current projection of
UTM zone 11, meters, NAD27 with a new yshift of 0. The
final step is to convert the reprojected grid back into a .tif
formatted image, ArcInfo command "gridimage" was used
for this purpose.
