		<descript>
Physiography for the Mid-Atlantic Coastal Plain was constructed by standardizing and extrapolating previous physiographic interpretations for areas within and adjacent to the region. For more information, see U. S. Geological Survey Professional Paper 1680.
			<purpose>This data set was developed as part of the process for creating a regional hydrogeologic framework to examine the primary natural physical factors that affect the flow and chemistry of shallow ground water and small streams in the Mid-Atlantic Coastal Plain. It was used in combination with surficial sediment texture to delineate seven relatively contiguous hydrogeologic subregions.</purpose>

				<procdesc>The surficial geology coverage was generalized to create the physiography coverage. The arcs (geologic contacts) from the surficial geology that correspond to physiographic boundaries (mostly scarps) were selected and copied to the new coverage. This coverage was then rebuilt with polygon topology and attributed. Six physiography subprovinces are delineated in the physiographic coverage, in the item, PROV.</procdesc>
