This data set is a subset of the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency (USEPA) Envirofacts point data set which includes
facilities included in the the Toxic Release
Inventory. Information on total pounds of volatile organic
compounds released in 1995 (from USEPA's Toxic Release Inventory
CD-ROM) has been included.
			</abstract>
<purpose>This data set is designed to locate or plot manufacturing
facilities included in the Toxic Release Inventory and
display or analysis of volatile organic compounds releases
in pounds per year.
			</purpose>
<supplinf>The following are the volatile organic compounds (VOC's)
selected to calculate the total releases at each facility. Not
all of these chemicals actually appear in the TRI data set,
but this list was used to select releases to sum for each
facility.

<datacred>This data set was produced from information provided
by the Environmental Protection Agency under their
Pollution Prevention and Toxics (7407) and Envirofacts
programs.

Compilation of the data sets was supported by the National
Water-Quality Assessment (NAWQA) Program of the U.S. Geological
Survey. The objectives of the NAWQA Program are to: (1) describe
current water-quality conditions for a large part of the
Nation's freshwater streams, rivers, and aquifers, (2) describe
how water quality is changing over time, and (3) improve the
understanding of the primary natural and anthropogenic factors
that affect water-quality conditions. National analysis of data,
based on aggregation of comparable information obtained from
across the United States, is a major component of the NAWQA
Program. These data sets were created in support of NAWQA
national data analysis activities.

AREA: area of the point (assigned as zero)

PERIMETER: perimeter of the point (assigned as zero)

EFTRI#: an ARC/INFO-generated internal feature identity number

EFTRI-ID: user-assigned feature identity number

LDIP_CODE: "Source of Location Record" from the EPA
Envirofacts system.

ID: the Envirofacts global identifier
(the TRI facility ID [TRIN] is the first 15 columns)

FAC_ID: EPA Facility Index System (FINDS) identifier

FACILITY_NAME: Name of the facility or site

SICN: Standard Industrial Code, four-digit code that identifies
the activity at this site. One facility can (rarely)
report more than one SIC code with different release
records, but this is the most common one found in
the release information. Most of these SIC codes are
documented in the attached table EFTRI.SIC.

LATITUDE, LONGITUDE: Location of the site, in NAD83
geographic coordinates.
X-COORD, Y-COORD: Location of the site, in NAD83
Albers geographic coordinates.

VOCFRQ: The number of VOC release records for this particular site

The rest of the columns are 1995 TRI totals in pounds
per year of volatile organic compounds (these are in the
list of 60 included in the Supplementary_Information of
this metadata file):

SAIR, SW, SU, SL: Total air, water, underground, and land releases

SPOTW: Total release to Public Treament works (sewer plants)

SOFF: Total offsite transfer

AIRNR: Total nonpoint (fugitive air release)
AIRPR: Total point ("stack") air release

TRI_FACILITY_ID: TRI facility identifier (part of envirofacts
ID item above).
