NASQAN was established in 1973. Water-quality data currently is collected at NASQAN sites on bimonthly and quarterly intervals. However, some of the bimonthly stations will be sampled only five times a year beginning in 1992. Separate coverages exist for the conterminous United States, Alaska, Hawaii/Guam, and Puerto Rico. The coverages attempt to represent all of the stations that are or have been in the network (some are inactive or discontinued) as of spring 1992. United States Water quality Surface water The intended use is to locate the stations in NASQAN so that studies of water quality can be performed. Procedures_Used: The original NASQAN coverage was created by Rich Alexander from information in the station information file (SIF). His coverage represented long-term NASQAN stations in the network before 1985-86. Information on more recent stations was not included. In the spring of 1992, Kathy Fitzgerald provided more recent information about the NASQAN sites. The new information included additional stations and more information about stations already in Alexander's coverage. The coverage now includes information current as of spring 1992. Revisions: The data was revised to include new information furnished by Kathy Fitzgerald (see section 4). Process_Date unknown Reviews_Applied_to_Data: The data has been used by the Office of Water Quality, but no formal review of the coverage has occurred. Related_Spatial_and_Tabular_Data_Sets: NASQAN.HEADER is an INFO file that has the same items as the coverage .pat. It includes all the stations for the United States, Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico and can be related to the coverage .pat by STATION. NASQAN.HEADER is included with the coverage for the conterminous United States and can be copied into the directories for the other coverages if desired.
