Fanno Creek is a tributary to the Tualatin River and flows though parts of the southwest Portland metropolitan area. The stream is heavily influenced by urban runoff and shows characteristic flashy streamflow and poor water quality commonly associated with urban streams. This data set represents the stream centerline of the current active channel as derived from light detection and ranging (LiDAR) data and aerial photographic imagery.
<purpose>This data set was developed as part of an USGS carbon study that examines sources of carbon-rich organic material along Fanno Creek. In order to quantify how much material enters the stream, the current active stream channel (centerline) needed to first be defined.</purpose>

<horizpar>Data set manually derived from 1-meter resolution light detection and ranging (LiDAR) data and 0.5-meter resolution aerial imagery. This mapping is a reference frame for geomorphic analyses and offers best available boundary for where water flows in Fanno Creek. All channel mapping was reviewed by another team member to ensure quality and accuracy. One reach of the river in Greenway Park was restored in the time period between the NAIP imagery (2009) and the LiDAR flight (2009). Wetted channel represents more recent LiDAR data and current extent. The active channel was interpreted and digitized at a scale of 1:1,000.</horizpar>
