The digital data set was created to display site locations at which micrometeorological data were collected in Ash Meadows and Oasis Valley, Nev. Introduction The digital data set was created in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Energy. The data set was created as part of a study to refine current estimates of ground-water discharge from the major discharge areas of the Death Valley regional flow system. This digital data set provides locations and general descriptions of sites instrumented during recent studies of evapotranspiration in Ash Meadows and Oasis Valley, Nevada. Data were collected December 1993 through 2001. Reviews The digital data set has gone through a multi-level, quality-control process to ensure that the data are a reasonable representation of source points. Reviewers were asked to check metadata and other documentation files for completeness and accuracy. Horizontal accuracy is equivalent to that of the Precision Light-weight Global Positioning System (GPS) Receiver (PLGR) used to determine site locations. All coordinates rounded to nearest meter. Multiple visual checks were performed to verify that sites are located at their intended location. 30 meters Sites were located from UTM coordinates acquired with a PLGR. Coordinates were stored in an ASCII-text file and were used to generate an ArcInfo point coverage. The coordinates are considered accurate to about 30 meters. Latitude and longitude values for the monitoring sites were recorded in the field using a GPS at time of visit. 19990601 1. UTM eastings and northings, and associated attributes were stored in a delimited ASCII-text file. 2. The ArcInfo utility CREATEPOINT was used to create an ArcInfo point coverage which contained all associated attributes and to build the associated topology. 3.
