			<purpose>To provide information on spatial patterns of ground-water residence time,
ground-water storage, and stream response to rainfall.  Applications might
include models of streamflow and ground-water (or contaminant) infiltration,
movement, and storage.
			</purpose>
			<supplinf>Procedures_Used:
The 1:500,000 scale mylar maps from Bingham (1986), were scanned into a 200 dpi
grayscale TIF image on a PC using a Contex FSS-3012t scanner.  The image was
then georeferenced in Arc/Info using the REGISTER and RECTIFY commands.  The
georeferenced images were used in ArcEdit as a backdrop for interactive on
screen digitizing.  The digitized linework was cleaned and built as a polygon
coverage.  The polygons were attributed with the recession index as reported
by Bingham (1986).  The coverage was then intersected with a 1:100,000-stream
coverage for Tennessee.  Stream mileage and square mileage area was attributed
to each polygon.  For each polygon, the following formulae were used to
calculate diffusivity:

DD = drainage density = stream_mileage / square_mileage
diffusivity = ( 0.933 * (DD / 2)^2 ) / recession_index
