The U.S. Geological Survey constructed a water-table map of the Morongo ground-water basin for ground-water levels measured during the period January-October 1994. Water-level data were collected from 248 wells to construct the contours. The water-table contours were digitized from the paper map which was published at a scale of 1:125,000. The contour interval ranges from 3,400 to 1,500 feet above sea level. This data set is a digital representation of the contours presented on the map published in 1995, "Regional Water Table (1994) and Water-Level Changes in the Morongo Basin, San Bernardino County, California", by Christine Carolyn R. Trayler and Kathryn M. Koczot, U.S. Geological Survey WRIR 95-4209, and make the data available for use with geographic information systems. The Morongo Basin is in the Mojave Desert region and is located about 100 mi east of Los Angeles, California. Ground water is virtually the sole source of water in the Morongo Basin.
